What is the difference between a regular sauna and an infrared sauna?
Dr. Brent Bauer describes it best, “the appeal of saunas in general is that they cause reactions, such as vigorous sweating and increased heart rate, similar to those elicited by moderate exercise. An infrared sauna produces these results at lower temperatures than does a regular sauna, which makes it accessible to people who can't tolerate the heat of a conventional sauna.” Infrared saunas are effective and place less stress on your body making them more appealing for those people who want to see results without the harmful efects.
What exactly are Far Infrared Rays (FIR)?
Far infrared rays, as depicted in the picture, are actually where the light rays emitted fall on the light spectrum. Trying not to get too techy here, but basically different rays penetrate the body at different lengths measured in microns. Radio waves have little to no penetration (low microns), then microwaves, infrared waves, up to x-rays and gamma rays (radiation) which have extreme penetration (high microns). Infrared rays are natural and produced by such things as the sun. So in summary, far infrared light rays use the same radiant heat as the sun, without the harmful effects.
Dr. Oz states, "It makes the same rays that come from the sun and filters out the UV radiation, so it only gives you the infrared radiation. That radiation that's infrared goes a little bit into your skin so, without heating you up and the external environment too much, it heats the body up." Additionally Dr. Bauer reports “no adverse effects have been reported with infrared saunas.”
How does the Sauna Blanket help aid weight loss?
The Sauna Blanket uses FIR Infrared heat to assist the body with weight loss. The use of Far Infrared Ray (FIR) thermal heat therapy seems to be to be one of the most effective and scientific methods for weight loss or body sculpting. The Sauna Blanket and the FIR radiant heat warms the body and causes increased blood circulation and lowers blood pressure. Dr. Oz explained to Oprah that "It gets your heart to beat faster, and it burns calories." Approximately 500-700 calories per session. This is equavilant to running at 5mph for 60 minutes. Adding the Sauna Blanket session post-workout will increase the amount of calories burned since your body is already in a calorie burning state.
Will the Sauna Blanket help improve the appearance of Cellulite?
The Sauna Blanket can help the appearance of cellulite. The Mayo Clinc explains that cellulite is "caused by fibrous connective cords that tether the skin to the underlying muscle, with the fat lying between. As the fat cells accumulate, they push up against the skin, while the long, tough cords are pulling down. This creates an uneven surface or dimpling." Cellulite is often found in areas of high fat deposits and often appears as dimples, due to the uneven fatty tissue. Cellulite is most often found in the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen and occurs in women and men.
The only way to improve the look of cellulite is to minimize or eliminate the fatty tissue. The Sauna Blanket uses radiant heat to reach these fat deposits and break them up. Sweating that occurs from the Sauna Blanket helps remove this fatty waste from the body.
Remember the best way to remove fat and cellulite is to diet and exercise. The Sauna Blanket is a great addition to help this process occur even faster.
How do I start my first Sauna Blanket wrap session?
For your first session, Start off with a 15 - 20 minute session to allow your body to acclimate to heat therapy. As your body becomes more heat-conditioned, you may want to increase your sauna blanket session to 45 minutes or longer. Heat settings should be adjusted similarly. Place heat on a low-med temperature and increase as your body tolerance allows. Make sure on your first time to set your controls to maintain a temperature that is comfortable for you.
For the first time I also recommend wear cotton garments. Dpending on the temerature, it may cause your skin some discomfort. I find that having a barrier between your skin and the blanket, will make the experience more comfortable for you.
It is also important to remain hydrated. For best results drink water prior, during and after your sauna session. I tend to keep a straw in my drink so I don't have to remove my arms while I am in session. Your body should be clean from lotions and perfumes.
How often can I have my Sauna Blanket sessions?
It is recommended that sessions be limited to three times per week and should not be done on back to back days. This allows the body time to adjust and it also allows time for the dissolved fat to be excreted.
Please remember that FIR infrared heat uses radiant heat to penetrate the skin at depths of 1 ½" to 4". This radiant heat helps warm the body inside and penetrates the skin helps reach fat deposits and break them up. When fat deposits are broken up, they are released and excreted from the body as toxins. This is why multiple treatments are necessary when the body has larger amounts of fat deposits.
